Moreton Bay Regional Council has released its annual report highlighting to residents, businesses and investors its record of achievement over the past year.
The theme of this year’s report ‘Working Together’ reflects Council’s commitment to partnering with its communities to build a thriving region while protecting and enhancing all the great things people love about the region.
Mayor Peter Flannery said I’m very proud that despite the challenges of the pandemic, our business continuity measures allowed us to stay the course in delivering Council services, an extensive program of works and hundreds of community and capacity building initiatives.
“It is through these actions that the Moreton Bay Region is well on the road to recovery.
Some of the highlights from 2020-21 include:
“During 2020-21 we set in motion a number of game-changing initiatives to position the Moreton Bay Region as a powerhouse of economic and social prosperity on a national level.
“We started delivering actions as part of our Regional Economic Development Strategy with ambitious targets to modernise Moreton Bay’s economy, attract new investment and create 100,000 new jobs by 2041.
“For the first time we launched the largest community engagement campaign ever undertaken in our region with over 4,000 people getting involved and having their say about their values and expectations for the region and the things we need to focus on as a priority.
“Through our advocacy work we achieved record investment in infrastructure in a bid to keep the region’s economy firing.
“Our strong government relations helped us achieve a combined COVID-19 stimulus of $105 million resulting in 146 projects and creation or support of 1600 jobs across the region.
“Importantly, we kicked off efforts to reshape our planning for the region and our neighbourhoods to create more affordable, liveable and sustainable spaces for our residents to live, work and play.
“We have delivered a record program of work to protect the natural beauty and enviable lifestyle on offer in the region and the things our residents love most about living here,” he said.
This report demonstrates our commitment to open, transparent and accountable governance and includes the Community Financial Report and Financial Statements for 2020-21.
