Council Local Community Support Grants close soon

Moreton Bay Regional Council Local Community Support Grants close soon

The first rounds of Moreton Bay Regional Council's 2021 Local Community Support Grants close soon.

Council is encouraging local community groups to get in before the 31 January closing date to apply for up to $3,000 of funding for their community activities, projects and initiatives.

Mayor Peter Flannery said he strongly encouraged locals to take advantage of the opportunity and get their applications in.

“While many of us feel our lives are getting back to normal, we know many community groups are still doing it very tough,” Mayor Flannery said.

Community already benefitting

“That’s why we’ve already given more than $720,000 this financial year to local community groups through a range of Council grant programs.

“Council is on the lookout for projects that benefit the Moreton Bay Region through community, cultural, sporting and environmental fields.

“From celebrations and events to charity projects and equipment, we love seeing the creative ways our community groups are making Moreton Bay a better place to live, work and play.”

Woodford Historical Society used their $2,604 grant to bring some much-needed Christmas cheer with a community Christmas movie night.

“It was such a great event with free Christmas family photos, painting sessions for kids, sausage sizzle and more, we could not have anything like it without the support from Council,” Woodford Historical Society Secretary Donna Grigor said.

“Plus we’ll reuse the equipment we purchase from the grant to cover costs for future events, people are already asking when we’re hosting the next one!

Council grants team here to help

“To other groups thinking of applying, I would say don’t hesitate and just have a go, the grants team at Council are so helpful so you’ll be well looked after.”

Community groups can apply for the Local Community Support Grants at any time, with four rounds of assessment for funding each year. The next round ends on 31 January 2021.
