Populating Caboolture West has moved a step closer, with Moreton Bay Regional Council approving an amendment to the Neighbourhood Development Plan No.1 of the Caboolture West Local Plan.

The amendment establishes a statutory framework to support development, deliver critical infrastructure - including social and community infrastructure - and help with the co-ordinated assessment of development applications in NDP1.

It comes after a State Government interest review and public consultation process which generated 49 submissions.

Council Mayor Flannery thanked the Government and community for working with Council to get the initial planning stages right.

“Well-planned communities don’t just happen overnight, so you can expect this first area, Neighbourhood Development Plan Area No.1 of Caboolture West (NDP1), to take over 10 to 15 years to develop and populate with homes, people and their pets," Mayor Flannery says.

Massive growth

“Caboolture West as a whole will accommodate roughly 30,000 homes over a 40-year period, with approximately 3000 of those within NDP1.

“Over time, NDP1 will feature a variety of housing options, a retail centre, a state primary school, a district sports park, local parks and large green spaces along the Caboolture River,” Mayor Flannery says.

Council consulted the community about the proposed planning scheme amendment between April 27 and May 25.

The results are in a consultation report that summarises the issues raised by submitters.

In a separate project, Council is asking the community to come up with place name suggestions for Caboolture West and the potential future suburbs within it.
