Community groups, sports clubs and artists from across the peninsula are among those who will share in more than $313,000 in the latest round of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s community grants program.

Division 6 Councillor Koliana Winchester said from Redcliffe’s lapidary club and navy cadets to the homelessness network and PCYC, 15 applicants from the peninsula had secured funding in round two of the 2017/18 program.

“Our local organisations, artists and sporting clubs play a vital role in building and promoting a sense of community, which is why I’m pleased to announce they have received valuable grant funding to bring a number of community projects and events to life,” Cr Winchester said.

“The Moreton Bay Homelessness Network will receive $4,400 to host its Reconnect Expo and provide a helping hand to those experiencing homelessness, while $4,000 will go towards Multicap’s Interservice Rugby League Day for people with a disability.

“Our fantastic nippers at the Redcliffe Peninsula Surf Life Saving Club have additionally secured $13,000 to upgrade their clubhouse and a further $1,300 for a new projector and laptop.

“I’m also pleased to announce $1,800 will go towards supporting the great work of our local Meals on Wheels to help them purchase new kitchen equipment.”

Division 5 Councillor James Houghton announced local sporting clubs the ‘Moreton Bay Raptors’ and the ‘Red Dragons Redcliffe Dragon Boat Racing Club’ had also secured grants.

“Our mighty Raptors will receive $1,900 to purchase shoulder pads for their growing gridiron program, and a further $1,500 to help upgrade their kitchen and install security cameras,” Cr Houghton said.

“It wouldn’t be Redcliffe without our Red Dragons, and it’s great to announce they’ve also secured $2,400 for a mural to adorn their new boating shed.”

Cr Houghton said a further $1,613 would go towards a new foam gymnastics vault for the Deception Bay PCYC.

Other recipients include: local artist Daniele Lamarche-Sarvia, Encircle, Elidon Croquet Club, Mousetrap Theatre Company, Redcliffe Art Society, and the Redcliffe Tennis Association.
