Moreton Bay Regional Council is seeking ideas from local businesses and residents to help breathe new life into the heart of Margate’s business district.

From 15 July to 5 August 2017, residents and businesses can share their feedback via an online survey.

The proposed project seeks to create a vibrant public space along Baynes Street in Margate, where residents and visitors can shop, relax, catch up with friends, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy activities like pop-up events and live entertainment.

Division 6 Councillor, Koliana Winchester, said council wanted the community to help shape what the space might look like and how council can best equip the space to attract more people to the area.

“Local businesses, residents and visitors regularly say to me they would love to see a civic space in the Margate area where they can host small events, have some extra green space to relax and enjoy our beautiful area,” Cr Winchester said.

“My hope is that together we can create a vibrant and welcoming public space that will attract residents and visitors, encouraging them to spend more time enjoying the area, socialising, and supporting local businesses,” she said.

“Some initial ideas include creating a welcoming public space with nice seating, artwork, lighting and landscaping, where residents and visitors can catch up with friends, grab a bite to eat, shop and enjoy activities such as alfresco dining, night-time entertainment and pop-up events.

“I look forward to seeing the ideas and feedback put forward by the community, and delivering an exciting and thriving public space that the Margate community can be proud of.”
