Bumper crowds set for Dolphin Stadium

Stage two of Dolphin Stadium’s expansion will open on 1 July, creating further opportunities for the venue which played host to the 2018 Rugby League Commonwealth Championships earlier this year.

The new eastern stands will add 3,000 seats, with capacity for 1,000 standing spectators, contributing to a total capacity of 10,000.

Redcliffe Dolphins’ Chairman Bob Jones says that additional seating and protection, such as the roof on the western grandstand, is already helping to push up attendance numbers.

“We’re finding it’s bringing a lot of supporters back to the game and brought new ones too,” Mr Jones said.

Dolphin’s ongoing expansion kicked-off in August 2016 with construction of the Des Webb stand as part of stage one development.

In total the project has cost $15 million, including $6 million for stage two, thanks to funding from Moreton Bay Regional Council, the state and federal governments, and club members.

Stage two is expected to be officially opened on 1 July when the Dolphins take on rivals Wynnum in the second round of the Herald Press Cup.

There are plans for a third stage, to develop the southern end of the ground, in the future.
