Are you prepared for a Fair Work Australia random audit?

Fair Work Australia conducted random audits on Food and Beverage Operators in West End during July.

If our region next is next, what would they find (or not find)?

As you may be aware, there were multiple changes to selected penalty rates in the Hospitality, Fast Food and Retail industries that came into effect from 1 July 2019.

Last week, the Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) conducted random audits on all food and beverage operators in West End,Queensland. It might be only a matter of time before they knock on the doors of any business sector in the Moreton Bay Region.

Layer this with the recent court decisions and high-profile media coverage of celebrity chef, George Calombaris underpaying staff and higher penalties for businesses breaching workplace laws, it is a boiling pot for your business to navigate.

You have so much you are juggling from the food, the service, to the great dishes and beverages; and yet attention to the back-of-house workplace matters needs outcomes to be just as delicious.

It is a balancing act many of you as operators in the food and beverage sector find overwhelming. You may not have the infrastructure in place that larger operations have to ensure you are not breaching workplace laws. However, try telling this to the FWO when they are on your doorstep to conduct an audit… it won’t wash with them.

The best advice is to seek advice, to safeguard your business and ensure you comply with recent changes to the Award and workplace laws.

With so many updates to wages; there are costly implications if you get it wrong and, when you are balancing your daily business requirements, you are bound to be a little confused.Clarification can be found at www.fairwork.gov.au
